Hugh Jones sounds a prtty Welsh name to me. Could he have been a friend or relative?

Thomas Turner appears to be the parish clerk and witnesses most of the marriages at the time.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

Thank you Andrew, now that is also another little piece for the jig saw, all clues and hints will add up eventually!
