« on: Sunday 14 August 11 07:35 BST (UK) »

Hello everyone,

I have a ancestor James Thomson born about 1800 in Glasgow.
He was a bookbinder in John Street Glasgow.
I am searching for his family (mother and father brothers and sisters)
I have information of his marriage and his children but i wish to go back further.

Regards

Did he live beyond 1855?

Any clues from the names of the witnesses at his children's baptisms?

Could he have used the naming tradition for his children?

I don't have any information on the childrens baptisms.
I know their names were Helen, Archibald, John and Alexander.
Alexander came here to Australia.

Have you looked at his will in case it holds any clues?

I notice in 1861 Helen is given as stepdaughter to Janet so it looks like James had been married before.

James Thomson married Margaret McLachlane on 7th august 1820. She died before 1834 because James married Janet Parker on 24th May 1834.

Janet Died in 1863 December 29th.

Alexander came to Australia in 1852??? (Sydney) Don't know anything about him until he married in 1878 (Bathurst)

Helen took over the Bookbinding business.
I don't know what happened to John and Archibald.
