20 Devonshire Street, Camberwell
« on: Monday 15 August 11 13:18 BST (UK) »
Hi.   I
am having quite a problem locating my great grandmother after 1896 and believe she was probably in an institution.  I have her death certificate for August 19th 1935  Although she died at Guys hospital, her address is registered as 20 Devonshire Street, Camberwell.  I have tried looking for this address and along with number 18 they don't appear to exist.  Can anyone help with the type of property these numbers belonged to.

Many thanks,  Ann

Hi

It seems Devonshire Street sometime before 1945 became Devon Street. It appears today (walking it via the facility on Google maps) to be a series of business outlets. The 1911 census shows Devonshire street Peckham was then residential housing. Number 20 was divided into two with the Camerons (8 people) in one half and the other half unoccupied. Number 18 was also divided into two both occupied 7 and 6 people in each.

Regards

Valda
