John Evans
« on: Thursday 18 August 11 14:55 BST (UK) »

From Fermanagh to Derrinallium Victoria Australia
I have hit a brick wall can you help me?

I am trying to find information on one of my Ancestors, a John Evans
Born abt 1838 in County Fermanagh, he died in Lismore, Victoria 1884.
There is a possibility that he arrived in Australia 26 SEP 1863 on board
CHAMPION OF THE SEAS, he was to marry soon after in 1864 in Geelong Victoria Australia.
His occupation was grazier; his family went on to dairy farming in the same area of Victoria.
His will states he was a farmer at Derrinallium that he was born in County Fermanagh Ireland, John left land and houses to a son John Johnstone Evans which was to be given to him on turning 21. He left his daughters 0ne thousand pounds also on turning 21 and to his wife Margaret Campbell 5 pounds sterling per year as long as she remains a widow and looks after their children!
If any one recognizes any of this information please contact me.

Thanks,

Fran

You can actually download that register here:

It is the Parish of Galloon, Diocese of Clogher (Co. Fermanagh)- other local church records listed here:

Thanks for that, I do have his father as a William but his mothers name is unclear on his dc here in Victoria.
It is definitely a very big possibility that it is him, although I would need further clarification to be sure.

Cheers

A book “Drumlone at the Crossroads” by Dermot Maguire provides a lot of local history and heritage about the Galloon area. Many of the main families are listed with a bit of their history. If you think your family come from that area, you might find a mention of them, and in any event you might also find the general information on the area interesting too.

A book “Drumlone at the Crossroads” by Dermot Maguire is this book available to buy or is it a very old edition?

It's comparatively recent and still available.  Erne Press, I think but could be wrong about that. Google it or look on the usual websites.
