LaPalme, LaPan b. QUEBEC ca 1840 to Bayfield, Ontario Canada
« on: Friday 19 August 11 18:44 BST (UK) »
Seeking info on Julia LaPalme, b. around 1840-41 in QUEBEC (new info per J.J. as of 8/22/11--thank you!) living with Andrew Rutledge family at age 20 in Bayfield, Ontario, Canada listed in 1861 Stanley Twp/Huron Co census--died Southhampton 1879. Married John Alexander MacDonald of Scotland in Bayfield, Ont, had many children including James Alexander McDonald b. 1875 (my g-g-grandfather).  SEEKING PARENTS, family and correct birthplace of Julie LaPalme/LaPan? Brick wall for over a decade. She died so young (39); very sad--gone but not forgotten. I'm trying to find you, Julia! :-)

Perhaps the Huron County Library can help you. They have a branch in Bayfield. Here is a link to their contact page:

Found a death record for Julia Macdonald
Southampton,Bruce County
Died Dec 21 1879
39 years
Weslyian Methodist

On the 1871 Ontario census for Southampton,Bruce County
Two children listed Sarah E age 4 years
James A 1 year
I was unable to find any other children for John and Julia

1881 Ontario census
2 children John age 9
Catherine age 8

On the 1881 census for Southampton John has remarried  and his wife's name is Mary.Married Mary Ann Cross 26/5/1880

1891  Ontario Census
9 children listed
Kate age 19
James age 13
Littie age 9
Donald age 8
Bella age 7
Emma age 7
Edith age 2
Pearl age 2
Edna age 10/12

Looks like it was John and Mary who had all the children.
I looked on the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid  but did not find Julia. You can try contacting  the library at Bayfield.
Because Julia died so long ago there is a good possibility she would have no headstone wherever she is buried

Wish I had more information to give.Might try looking around some more you never know what might show up.

Blessings to you, Dear Lilybell! This is wonderful information, some new which I can't thank you enough for.  Yes, from what I know, your info is right on and I am so grateful to you for taking the time to help me out.  Trying to find Julia's parents/sibs names has haunted me for a decade, really all my life. She is my absolute thickest of brick walls that I just can't seem to break through (finding her parents and sibs, in particular). But THANK YOU---SO MUCH!!!  Knowing Julia was born in 1840 in Ontario (Bayfield was the first census I found her living with another family but can't find my records now...so I am hopeful Bayfield was her place of birth but am unsure.)  Will keep digging----THANK YOU AGAIN! Tammi

There is a birth for James 1870 with father John A. mother as Julia
https://www.familysearch.org/search/recordDetails/show?uri=https://api.familysearch.org/records/pal:/MM9.1.r/M2P2-1KH/p1
But in 1874 there was a birth for a William Wellington Macdonald with mother as Isabella Le Palm!

Oh my...(thank you for the info on James--yes, he's definitely my great grandfather!) but what a curiosity, finding the other little boy, William Wellington MacDonald--..and Isabella La Palm...I am wondering since my Julia died in 1879 maybe Julia was listed as Isabella...in 1874? This is very peculiar! Pure speculation here...this is fascinating though, and I can't wait to dig in further with this new info! If I can connect Julia La Palm to Isabella, well that's a connection that is going to help me break through this pesky brick wall...Hmmm. Lots of homework to do now! THANK YOU SO MUCH... ;)

The image for the birth of William Wellington has the father John as a Tailor so looks like the correct family. The birth was registered by a doctor so maybe he got his patients mixed up? Or Julia c/h had Isabella as one of her names. Also, the image is from a transcribed index so there is room for error there as well.

There is a death for a Julia as McDonald in Southampton (New) Cemetery at this link. You can use the reference number to contact the 'Contributing Organization' .... see line below 'Search' for info on how to do so.

There appears to be a John as McDonald buried there also.

I was hoping it would be a clue of sorts...
There were LePalm families in Russel but they "may" be ruled out by how late they are thought to have came to Ontario and started having children ...http://lapalmefamily.blogspot.com/2008/05/generation-4.html
and Hastings :Lapalm, shown here in 1851...http://www.rootschat.com/links/0eq5/
I wanted to see the image in case "Nelia" is actually "Julia" http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census52/View.jsp?id=8570

found the image...All different..One looks like La Palin La Pahn La Pabue. UGHS!!
Yes I think this might be Julia!! Looks more like a capital "I" but then the person makes 6's like a "b" or "h" so...( but born closer to 1845?) and the neighbour Daniel Collins is a tailor so could even be how they met...
