Hollows, Canonbie - George Scott
« on: Monday 22 August 11 19:28 BST (UK) »
Hi
My gt gt gt grandfather George Scott was a blacksmith at Hollows betwen the 1820's and his death in the 1870's. He was succeeded as blacksmith by his son Robert, until his death in 1900. Can anyone say if the Hollows of today has any buildings from the 1800's, in particular, is the blacksmith's forge still there. Among his children, George and his wife, Ann had daughters, Mary, Ann, Jane and Margaret. Mary and Ann had illegitimate children who were brought up by George an Ann. They were all born in the 1830's and apart from Margaret, I have been unable to discover if any of the other three girls were married or when they died. The inscription on the memorial stone in Canonbie Cemetery shows George and his wife, and a daughter (name illegible) who died in Nebraska. I imagine this might have been Jane. Can anyone help me to unravel any of this.
