Frederick George West
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 21:53 BST (UK) »
I have most of the data I need on my Grandfather FG West (only  recently  found him!!!!) BUT I cannot find out where he was in 1901. He was married (just) so I have searched for him and his wife Louisa. He moved to Leicestershire from Woking in Surrey, got married there (St Margaret's)  to Louise Poole, but until his death in 1907 (back in Woking)  I have found zilch! Not exactly zilch...his son (my Dad) was born 1905 in Leicester.

I have tried all the census info on most sites, but nothing ties up with the data I have for this couple.

I should really appreciate some direction. Thanks

Hi

You haven't given a birthyear or birthplace?

His death reg shows he was 29 so born circa 1877/1878.  Was he born in Surrey?  If so - which part as there are 3 possible births - one in Guildford and two in Croydon

Many young men are absent from the 1901 census as they were away at the Boer War

Just a thought

They were living in Wandsworth in 1901 - here's the reference.  Both are correctly transcribed and both are 23

Thanks Carole, I hope that is them. Louisa was older than Frederick, but that may not be how they noted it on the census.

Thanks again.

The marriage was in 1900 but the 1901 shows a 2yr old son Frederick b Wandsworth

Freebmd has an 1897 marriage for a Frederick George West and Louisa King so the 1901 entry is not your couple

Where and when was Louisa born?

I have now checked this entry and it is not them. Louisa was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire (circa 1874). Her family moved to Leicester. FG West moved on his own to Leicester - his family lived (and stayed) in Woking.

I just can't find FGW and Louisa at all in 1901. Son wasn't born until 1905. FGW died in 1907.

1881 census shows Louisa aged 11 and the 1871 shows her as 1yr old so her birthyear was before 1874
