I grew up in the Townships, but not in the area the MacLeod's were from, however there was a MacLeod family who lived a few blocks away and the kids went to our one English-language school in town, as I did.  They came from the same area you are interested in. Their father was Fraser and he died when I was a kid, I would say around 1967. He was quite young, probably in his mid-forties.
My mother, who was a freelance writer, got to know a D MacLeod from Bury or Scotstown, I am sure he is long gone, but I won't mention his name, though he might be 95-100 if still alive. I believe he was Fraser's brother or cousin.
I also knew a Macdonald family from Scotstown, they lived on the next block. The old grandmother would come to visit, apparently she could speak Gaelic. The macdonalds originated on the Isle of Lewis. I don't think they were related to the MacLeods.
