Paxton Family - Stranraer / Portpatrick / Drummore
« on: Sunday 28 August 11 17:56 BST (UK) »
We found the grave of my Grandfather Joseph James buried on the hillside cemetery at Kirkmaiden just outside Drummore.

There were several family members buried there ..
Joseph James was in the Highland Light Infantry and wounded in action in 1916 age 29 and brought back to a military hospital in Ripon where he died.

We think he was the son of William Paxton died 1925 aged 85 (Williams wife nee Mary Annie Boyd Henry ) who died in Drummore aged 72 in 1918.

There are some other Paxtons on the headstone - Hugh Paxton probably an older brother died young age 8 in 1889.

Jemima Paxton probably an older sister by 17 years (but possibly could have been Josephs mother if she had had him at a very young age ???)

Margargaret Caldwell Paxton died 1969 aged 81 likely Josephs younger sister by 8 years.

Anybody able to help with any info regarding the Paxton family ?

Regds
Jill

Hi Sharon,

Thanks so much for your help tracing my family.

We located My grandfathers wife too and visited the family home in Stranraer.
Her name was Eliza Lochhead , daughter of Robert Lochhead who was assistant Station Manager in Stranraer in 1858.
They lived as a family in a 3 story quite grand house at 8 Edinburgh road Stranraer,

Eliza presumably wasnt buried in the same plot as her husband Joseph James and it would be nice if i could locate where she was laid to rest and anything else about her.

Many thanks
Jill
