COMPLETED THANKS - Help with handwriting
« on: Sunday 28 August 11 17:59 BST (UK) »
Hello, could anyone please help with with the last entry on this page?

It is a baptism entry for George Joseph Symonds. I cannot work out the father's name at all. I think the first letter might be "N" - if you look at "No occupation" under the previous entry, it does look the same. Any help with the "Abode" would also be appreciated too!

Many thanks.

The baptism date was 14 Oct 1821,St Pancras, London. From census entries, I think he was actually born in 1819.  :)

Thanks Mirf - hadn't checked the IGI! But it still doesn't really look like William to me - having said that, George Joseph's son was called William Henry, so mabe there is something in it.

Chirp - not entirely sure about Hamish, though my 6 yr old thought the first letter was an "H" too.  Or maybe it's a "G"? I have the whole page if it would help in comparing the writing?

It wouldn't do any harm to post the page when you get chance. As you say it might help to make comparisons.

Here is the full page, for the purposes of comparing the handwriting. You should be able to enlarge it in a photo viewer.

Thanks for your help.

I'm none the wiser I'm afraid. In the abode column it looks like the first word begins with B and ends with h. Could they have lived in Bath? Or has the writer made a note about the child's birth perhaps?
