Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat!  ;D

Thomas Ludby was baptised at St Mary, Petworth on 6 Nov 1769, parents, William and Mary Ludby.

Matilda Yeoman, baseborn daughter of Jane Yeoman was baptised there, 21 July 1774.

Added: Forgot to say, there is no obvious baptism for Jane at Petworth - maybe one of the villages around there?

Thank you for your quick reply and good information.

Is there a marriage for Thomas Ludby and Matilda Yoemans?  I have them as parents of a Sarah Ludby b. 9 Nov 1785 Petworth, but that would make Matilda  too young?

Any record in Parish for who father of Matilda was?

I have a note with no reference that Jane's mother was Sarah Luttman.  Confusing.

Marriage for William Ludby and Mary?  Baptism for William?

Thanks for your help/

I must have had year wrong for Sarah.  The birthdate I had was the same as the baptism but wrong year.

This is great information.  Thank you so much.

Is there any more information on William Ludby?

Do they have any records on fathers of illegitimate children?  support through church etc?

Anything on a Sarah Luttman having daughter named Jane?

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat :D

I think you will need to go back to what you definitely know since from the info found so far there is a lot that does not fit what you believe to be true. How do you know your Sarah was born 1785? How do you know your Thomas and Matilda lived all their lives in Petworth?

In 1851 Thomas (81) and Matilda (76) Ludby both  born Petworth are in Brighton in same household is daughter Ann born Nutbourne plus her husband George and children HO107/1644/201 Pg 40

Hi,

I got a bit side tracked - I was trawling through a site I use quite a lot, using variations on your names, to see if things like removal orders or illegitimate children were recorded, and I came across someone I have an interest in!  :o

Anyway, sorry no, I can find nothing on Matilda's mother or grandmother but I wonder if perhaps she came from across the border (ie Surrey)?

I will check out William Ludby though because I rather forgot about him - and I am fairly sure there was stuff about him.

Jan, you are correct.  The information I had was that they were born and died in Petworth.  I should not assume that they always lived there.  The date for Sarah was incorrect.  Is this Ann same as Mary Ann b. 1793, above?

My inquiry was based on a family tree someone published online with little or no references, so what I know for sure is not much.  :)
