Meech family, Burton Bradstock

I am having great difficulty in tracing the later life of William Hine Meech born Burton Bradstock in 1825. In 1849 he married Mary Ann Abrahams but by the 1851 census he has disappeared. There is a child born to Mary in 1854 in the Channel Islands and then she died in 1855. I can find no further trace of William although I think he may have been living in the Isle of Wight. My reason for thinking this is that when my grandmother [William's grand daughter] died, she left property in the Isle of Wight although she had never lived there. If anyone is researching this family I should be grateful for some pointers. Thanks.
