November 21, 1850 Anglo-Celt, Cavan Paper:

MORE ROBBERIES AT COOTEHILL (Extract from this  longer piece as follows:

Could this refer to William -7 years before the date you give above.)

ROBBERY OF LEAD. = At an early hour on the same morning (Saturday last) a gate keeper belonging to Richard Coote, Esq., of Bellamont Forest, discovered a sweep and his wife in the act of carrying off a considerable quantity of lead which they had just stripped off the roof of the house lately occupied by Mr. Eyre Coote, J.P., adjoining the church of Cootehill (which verifies the old adage - "The nearer the church the farther from God!") and being armed with a fowling piece he (the gate keeper) arrested them both and delivered them up to the police, and they were committed by the petty sessions' magistrates, on the same day, to the gaol of this town to abide their trials at the ensuing quarter sessions of Bailieborough for the offence.

Hi Pastmagic,
It may be him but unfortunately I have no way of knowing.  I don't know what year William was born, in fact I know nothing about him before his wedding to Mary Jane McKeon in St Johns Church of Ireland church at Kilcrow on the 13th July 1852, other than his Father was a John Lee from Monaghan and at the time of the wedding both William and his Father are shown as pensioners (Military or RIC I presume but don't know for sure)

Best regards
Dave
My emails are not working sorry

Hi Dave. Is your William Lee connected at all to John Lee b 1810 in Co MoOnaghan, married Jane McCallum, had 7 children, 6 of whom emigrated to New Zealand? Drum, Killeevan, Aghabog, Dawson Grove are all place names known to be connected to these Lees. Any information you can share on Lees in Monaghan would be very welcome.

Hi mjlee
Would one of the 7 children of John Lee, be Jane Lee. I have a relative Jane Lee who married Charles Mccullum in 1851. They came from Dawson Grove.

John and Jane Lee had a daughter Jane, but she married a Mills here in NZ. Perhaps your Jane Lee was his sister.
