I am looking for a Marie louise jeroom meartens Fernandes, born june 1918 in Ghent Belgium. She came to this country just after WW11,so could have been 1945,46,47?Wondered if someone could check passenger lists for me ,probably sailed from Bruges. As far as we know she came here on her own.

Trevor - Ancestry has access to the incoming passenger lists free for a few days on promotion. However they relate mainly to ships coming from outside Europe so if she came on a ship that sailed within Europe she's unlikely to be listed - there is a chance that she could have been on a vessel calling at a European port, but originating elsewhere.

Thanks but I have tried that and they are not really free. you can do a search but you have to pay to view records so they are being very misleading by saying they are free.

Trevor - you need to have a registration (eg from an old membership or free trial); then it is free. I've just done a quick search (I've an old login from a trial) & didn't see anything that looked like her. If you got a result you thought could be her & you still can't get access, if you post the name you found I'll have another look if I get chance.

This is what Ancestry says about  their Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960

" This database is an index to the Board of Trade’s passenger lists of ships arriving in the United Kingdom from foreign ports outside of Europe and the Mediterranean. Exceptions to this are vessels that originated outside of these areas but then picked up passengers in European or Mediterranean ports en route."

So you probably won't get her on those I'm afraid.

I saw that one too- but she wasn't born in 1918 nor did she come here after WW2 or from Belgium,so I discounted it  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Carol

Well it was only a year out on the birth and sometimes handed down information always gets distorted, so I thought it was worth a punt unless she came a second time later?
