BANKS - Maughold. 1922/3
« on: Monday 05 September 11 23:35 BST (UK) »
Searching for info about BANKS family apparently living at Maughold in 1922/3.
My great uncle Richard Nightingale BANKS (born 1885 Manchester) sailed for Canada from Liverpool in 1923 and on his Form 30A Canadian Immigration form he listed his wife as living at Maughold, Ramsey, IOM, but no name. His occupation is listed as farmer / harvester, intending on settling in Canada, and headed for Winnipeg. He is also the informant on his fathers death certificate in 1922 in Stockport, Cheshire.
Unfortunately we do not know his wifes name, but she and her/their son are in a list of mourners at my grandfathers funeral in Stockport, in 1937 as "Mrs Banks, sister-in-law & N Banks, nephew". We have found no trace of the marriage or birth in the England BMD indexes, but the marriage must have taken place between 1911 and 1923.as Richard is the Canadian 1911 census as single, but he had returned to UK by 1912/3. We also dont know if she followed him to Canada after 1923.
I have looked up Manx BMD and no indication of a marriage, but are there other sources which may yield any clues to him or his wife around 1922/3 ?
Any help or advice appreciated!!
Many thanks!
Richard

Do you know if Richard had any children born in England, before he sailed to Canada 1922?
There's a Richard Nightingale Banks born 1915 Q3 in Chorlton Lancashire.
Image isnt available though!

That's a weird one - I checked the full GRO index for the September qtr 1915 and all the Banks entries are there but none that matches Richard

I also checked 1913 in case it was an error in the year - nothing

I found it on anc England & Wales FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915,Vol 8c page 769, but no image. I too looked for it elsewhere & nothing came up.
If you look around the same time theres a Annie Roach married a Richard Banks in 1913 Chorlton Q3 Vol 8c page 1956.
Then if you look at Banks Births Chorlton, mums maiden name Roach(E) you get a few, but not this Richard Nightingale one, but she did have an earlier Richard.
Thats why I'm asking if he had any other siblings that we know of.
Can you check deaths to see which of these children died please.?

I have now found the death if the Richard Banks born to Annie Roach 1914. He died in 1915 Chorlton Vol 8c page 1177.
So maybe she did go on to have another Richard Nightingale Banks that year.

Also refering to first request message of a Nephew attending a funeral in 1923 Stockport.
How can you be sure he's The son of Mrs Banks & not another family member?
