Worcestershire surnames

Hallo

My gg grandmother lived in Worcestershire, but the only part of her maiden name I can decipher is the first four letters which are Thot followed by about four others which are illegible. Does anyone know of surnames beginning with Thot

Hi Bryan just found the name THOTTEN in that area on the 1881 census CD. Any more info and I'll have another look.

A quick and dirty technique for ideas is to do a search in 1901 census for THOT* the * symbol is a wildcard which means everything beginning with THOT will be returned.  I got:-

THOTCHEL
THOTH
THOTSON
THOTTEN
THOTTON
THOTTSON

THOTH being found in Worcester, Catshill in particular.

Can you attach a scan?  So we can have a go?

If my gg was still alive in 1881 she would be using her married name Mary Ann Davis.
The document I am trying to decipher is the 1861 birth certificate of her son George William, born in Powick Worcestershire.

Hi Bryan I found registration of a George William Davis at Upton Upon Severn (nr Powick) in the Dec qtr 1861 6c 291. Is this the right one?

Also a death of a Mary Davis age 47 at Upton again March qtr 1868.

 That George William Davis would definitely be the right one as his birth date was 20 October 1861, and registered in Upton upon Severn.

As regards the death of his mother Mary Ann I have no previous knowledge, but the one you have come up with could well be right.
