Asylum records??
« on: Wednesday 07 September 11 17:12 BST (UK) »
??? Hello, would anyone happen to know where I can find, if at all, names of inmates in asylums? perhaps there is a database somewhere? or do I need the national archives?  What information exists for these sorts of records?
Thank you

Rose, Jacobs,  Guttentag, (mainly London)

Depends on place and date. When and where are you thinking of?

Ah, well, that is the problem! not really sure.  I would hazard a guess at the Stroud, Glos area as that is where she was married.  It was after she married so probably after 1928 ish but before 1978! not very helpful I know but the story is sketchy at best and I am not 100% sure she was actually family even though she had the same surname.

I think the dates you mention will be difficult, because my understanding is that many (all?) of the records are closed for 100 years. I may be wrong, hopefully someone will be along to refute or confirm my thinking.

Thanks Jane, lets hope someone can fill us in a little.  I think the woman I am searching was born around 1904 and is no longer alive, but you are probably right about the length of time before they release the records!
