Hi Sam.

Both surnames I am interested in the area, Griffin and Farrar at one time were quite prolific in the area of Coolroe and surrounding areas. I have been to the area several times and I believe the family of Farrars you mention dying out and the land going to the Griffins is the same family I am interested in. Several of this family may have gone to the States. I was at Coolafancy Saturday and looking out at the surrounding countryside and hills was beautiful. Very scenic.

Hi again,
Just a short update, I haven't logged on for quite a while. If you look at the census for 1901 you will see that John and Mary Farrar had seven children. John,Josh and Margaret [Maggie] lived and died at Coolroe. Susan [Sue] Married a man called McClure and lived in Canada or the US. Mary married a man called Wilson and also emigrated there. As far as I know Sue had no children, but Mary had but how many or where they are now I have no idea. That leaves two older daughters,Francis and Sarah, and I have no knowledge what happened to them. If I find out more I will let you know.

Sam

Hi Sam.

Thanks for getting back to me. I would appreciate anything you may find on this family. Just looking back through my notes I see that when John Farrar married Mary Webster it was his third marriage. I had heard of some of the famiy emigrating but know very little of this branch of the family. I may be wrong on this but I believe the family died out at Coolroe and the land went to the Griffin side of the family.

Hi Sam.

I should of had a look at my notes before posting last message. John Farrar married Mary Webster at Wicklow Parish Church 11 Apr 1888 and from what I have found out so far there were only the four children from this marriage, Joshua, John, Susan and Mary. The other children you mentioned will have been frm his previous marriages.

Webster , Parker and Smith in Wicklow. Power , Lewis and Livingstone in Carlow and Wexford. Forde in Monaghan . Orr in Cavan.

Death of a Sarah Farrar in Shillelagh District last quarter 1905 with birth date of 1883 looks like missing Sarah.
A Francis Farrar and a James Kearney have same volume number and page no for marriage registration in Shillelagh district in 1st quarter 1909. James and Frances Kearney living in Dublin in 1911 census.

Hi again,
I wasn't aware that there was more than one marriage in question! I have found some more information since. James Kearney and his wife Francis [Farrar] lived and died in Coolroe. Francis died suddenly from a lung infection in late 1940s. James, who was shattered by the loss of his wife died a few years later. They had two children, twins, one of which died as a child and other lived alone for a long time and died suddenly in the mid to late 1950s. His name was William, known locally as 'Bill of the brow' the brow being the hill on which they lived. There were more than one William Kearney in the area. That house and farm is now owned by Josh who I believe may be a grand nephew of James. He is single and he has a married sister and brother and a single brother too.
