WADMAN Maria born in Somerset 1827

I am researching information about Maria Wadman, who was married to George Carrington.  I have found her on the 1841 census, so have those details.  At that time the family lived in the parish of  Lyncombe and Widcombe. Her father was William Wadman b abt 1796 and her mother was called Mary b around 1801.  Maria had 3 brothers, William, Henry and George.  I can't find out who her mother was (Mary, but no surname and may not have been born in Somerset) and nothing about her father, other than him being born in Somerset according to the 1841 census, where he is recorded as a gardener.  I'd be grateful for any other information to enable me to go further back with this line.  Thank you!

Hi on the 1851 census Mary WADAM b c 1792 Milfordton Somerset, and Maria Carrington in same household b 1827 Bath Somerset.

That's excellent, thanks!  Another piece of the jigsaw.  I just need to keep searching to get Maria's mother Mary's maiden name and try to get further back with her or with William.

Hi, FreeReg has a marriage for a  William Wadman and Mary Smith, St Peter and Paul, Bath Abbey. 10 June 1819.
Wonder if they would tie in with the Bath connection on 1851 Census.

There is also a William W marrying Mary Stacey, St Peter and Paul, Wincanton. 22 April 1816

In the 1841 census, Maria has a brother William Wadman, aged 3.  That means he was born after civil registration began, so should be found on BathBMD, which gives the mother's maiden name.

So she was Mary SMITH.

I don't know of a Milfordton in Somerset, but it may be Milverton. You can find transcriptions of its registers here

There's a Mary Smith baptised in 1789, to Robert and Betty.

But that would make her nearly 50 when William was born, so probably not the right Mary.

In the 1861 census she's at the same address as in 1851, (with Maria Carrington who is now widowed). Her birthplace is given as Bath, age 65! With such a range of birthplaces and ages in the census and such a common name it's going to be difficult to take her any further. This could be her death:

putting her almost old enough to be the one from Mlilverton. This is probably William's:

Thank you so much for all of this!  Brilliant!  As we are also Smiths, it's funny to see another Smith appear in the family tree so far back.

I have only started this research a few weeks ago and am still getting to grips with the ins and outs of the censuses, dates and ages being different in each one, name spellings different and so on!

My husband wil be delighted - we are hoping to have as much done as posible before a family get together at the end of October.

Ancestry.com gave me Mary Hayter b 1801 married to William Wadman b 1796.  I'm from his son William Wadman b 1829 line.
