Hi,
Yeah, I realise people might not like it hence I am confused.
I am aware of every detail other than the exact day of birth I am wondering how to go about it.

Your best bet is to phone the GRO, details in the link i gave above, and they will advise (if the first operator is uncooperative put the phone down and try again later as in my experience most of the operators are very helpful)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

You mean the part where it says to put 1/1/YEAR if you don't know the exact date and they will search?

I meant this part:

"A 3 year search for the index reference will be carried out. You must supply the exact date of event if you have it. If you don't have the exact date enter 01/01/YEAR and we will search the specified year and one year either side.
Again, you will be prompted to supply further details for more recent births and deaths as you complete the online application form. If you are unable to complete the mandatory fields then you will not be able to apply online."

Okay, I am putting in the date as 01/01/2006 so virtually done with ordering, but I'm still uncertain about this, and also, as the topic says, ordering a certificate of a minor child (not asked on the form but it's primarily to confirm some details regarding a parent). I hope this is not going to cause any trouble?
edit:- t.rouble with getting the document I mean!

Would be grateful for some quick help as I'm midway through ordering.

I'm not sure what you mean. The most 'trouble' you are likely to encounter is that your attempt to purchase is unsuccessful because you can't provide sufficient or correct information. If you were looking for Scottish birth up to 2009 you could order an extract online without any date other than year and without parent's names.
