Boer War
« on: Sunday 11 September 11 16:44 BST (UK) »
I have in my possession my Great Grandfathers Boer War medals, Queens South Africa and Kings South Africa. Engraved on edge of medals is - Corpl G. CLARKE 3367 8th Hussars. My searches on Find My Past show a George Alfred CLARK with attestation date of 9 Sept 1876. However his Record of Service shows he was discharged after only 254 days as being unfit for further service. I cannot believe this soldier is in fact the same Corpl G Clarke on the medal engraving, but the number of 3367 applies to entries for both. Could he have come back and re-enlisted with the same number 3367 and risen to the rank of Corporal ? Seems unlikely to me.

Thanks very much for that information. I think I was following the wrong G. Clark on FindMyPast.
