John Allan c1849
« on: Monday 12 September 11 13:49 BST (UK) »
I have John Allan c1849 in St Clements, Aberdeen.  HIs parents are Catherine Carnegie, c1807 Bervie and William Allan c1807.  (William not confirmed as I cannot trace him further back from his marriage cert in 1842.  He was a ship stoker).  John married Helen Wemyss in Bervie in 1879.  They had one daughter Susan  in 1880.  Helen registered the birth.  They lived in David Street, Bervie.
John is a 'ships carpenter,' (journeyman).
It seems that John died sometime between the march 1880 when Susan was born and the 1881 census where Helen is a Widow.  I have searched for his death certificate to no avail and cannot find a burial for him either.  I have his mothers burial in St Peter Churchyard, Aberdeen in 1881.....any hints or ideas, I would be gratefull.

Thanks,
Lynda

Hi Lynda

I did a quick search on scotlandspeople  Surname = Al*n christian name =John

between 1880 and 1882 birth year 1849 +/- 2 years you get 1 result in Aberdeen and only 3 in the whole of Scotland.

Yours Aye

Thanks to you both for looking....am not sure where to go with this one...I have looked at all the certs for John Allan/Allen... John Carnegie Allan which is the name he was registered under.  No one seems to know what has happened to him.  If he was a 'ships carpenter', does this mean he would have be aboard a ship or involved in ship building?  I am trying to locate his wifes burial site to see if she has a headstone which would give more details.

Thank you both again.

Hi...Just had a thought...If John died in 1880/1 where would he have been buried around Bervie....I am aware that the 'new' cemetary was not open at that time...would it have been the wee bit around the church in the middle of Bervie or was there somewhere else?

Thanks,Lynda
