Any information regarding the sloop "Tredegar" of Newport (between being built in 1840 and sinking in 1863) would be most welcome.

I have just found this website when researching my family history. I am the gr-gr-gr-grandson of Richard and Catherine Speary who kept the Ship and Castle Pub in Canal Parade Newport in the mid 1800s. Two of there sons, William and Richard were the owners of the Tregedar Boat Company and one of their boats was the Sloop "Tregedar" Both men died in 1865 within a couple months of each other and the company was bought by their mother Catherine Speary. There are lots of references to their company in a new website I found called the British Newspaper Archive. When I have done more research I will post again.

btw What is your connection with Broseley? I live about 2 miles away in Coalbrookdale.

John Syner was the captain of the Tredegar from 1849 and his ancestors moved to Brockweir by 1700. Before that they came form Benthall as did my branch of this family.
