Wallace / Wallice COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 16:24 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on the Wallace or Wallice family from the Whitehaven area of Cumbria?
I have traced back to my 4x Gt Grandmother who is Agnes Wallice born about 1796 in Cleator Moor, she married Robert Lee on 18 Dec 1816 at St Chads in Rochdale by special licence.
I know nothing about the Wallace's and can't find much on-line info for that area.
I would be grateful of any help at all.

Thanks
Al

1851 Census has her aged 60, and Genes says born "Auston Row". How do you know she was born in Cleator Moor? At that time, Cleator wasn't built up, and was just a sparsely inhabited parish. There is an Agnes marrying at St. Bees in 1796.

I've solved the mystery. I looked at the 1851 census image at the record office yesterday, and it seemed to give "AUSTON MOOR" as place of birth. This clearly had to be Alston Moor, so I checked the IGI, and Agnes was baptized there 1 Sep 1792 (father Thomas). A thomas married in Alston in 1787, to "Mary Barren".

Hi!

Great!

That makes a lot more sense!

I could only think of Alston Moor that fitted but it seemed too far away!

Thank you for letting us know.  Do feel free to ask oif you'd like anything else looking up.

By the way, I could look at the original for Alston Moor if you's like or any more you have.

Enjoy Rootschat!

Thank you so much to everyone for your help, it really helps if you know the area. I would have been struggling with this forever.

Thanks again
