Wooding family in Monmouthshire
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 18:15 BST (UK) »
I am currently trying to find birth/marriage of Richard Wooding 1865 and wife Mary Ann Morris 1865 born in Cefn, Monmouthshire. 1881 Census shows them living with son John Ernest Wooding and a lodger Thomas Wooding who is 20years
Parents of Richard are Thomas Wooding and Martha ? who were lock keepers at Burgedin
Other children......John, William, Thomas, Mary
Any help would be gratefully received !
Hill family of Bedford..Bolas family in Wales...Little's of Cricklade Wiltshire

Sorry! I am confused!

You have posted this in Montgomeryshire, but the subject is Monmouthshire? ???
Are the 1865 dates, dates of birth? If so the happy couple were only 16 in 1881?  ???

Can't find any of these people in 1881 - do you have the reference?

Think that I've worked some of it out

1881

Burgedin Lock, Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire
RG11/5498/37/7

Thos Wooding, 38, lock keeper
Martha, 35
Richd, 9
John, 6
Wm, 4
Thos, 2
All born Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire

So, I think we're looking for a marriage a little later than suggested.  Thomas might be 22 in 1901, so that might be the census that Welsh terrier is referring to.

And my part of the world  ;D

1901

Old Forge Farm, Cefn, Ruabon, Denbighshire
RG13/5218/138/2

Richard Wooding, 30, farm labourer, b. Llanymynech
Mary A, 36 b. Cefn Mawr
John E, 3 mths, b. Newbridge  (on the Cefn side of the Ruabon/Chirk border)
Thomas, brother, 20, carter on farm, b. Burgedin

I don't think that Monmouth comes into it!

Kevin

You have to be Welsh with strong Montgomeryshire and Denbighshire connections to work it all out  ;D :D ;D

Wot? a Welsh gnu?! ;D

My mother was born in Blaina; Grandparents married in Blackwood.

True, grandfather came from Wiltshire, and grandmother from Kent - but that must make me a little bit Welsh?

I worked for a while at Pontllanfraith, so know the valleys around there quite well!

But that's South Wales and I'm from the North  ;D ;D

Hold on - there's some more.

I checked Mary's age and she was born circa 1865 and I think it is a second marriage - just a theory as I can't find a suitable Mary Ann Haines in Cefn so far.

There's an interesting  Mary Ann Morris in Acrefair (just next to Cefn Mawr) on the 1871 ~

RG10/5653/43/19

Not found a marriage to a Mr Haines yet though.
