Hi All,

Thanks for responses.   I am related to Nancy and can confirm she died in 2006.   Her mother was Ethel Sawle and Ethel was married to Charles Victor Ward; although the birth certificate gives the mother as Ethel Oman I can find no record of Ethel Ward marrying James John Oman, the father.  It seems Nancy was given away at birth and I know she was adopted in 1936, it is the period 1921 to 1936 that I have little information on.   I have viewed sailing passenger lists and been in contact with Nat Adoption Soc but no info on Nancy.

Since it appears that she didn't sail (at least, not on that ship) - was the adoption in the UK? If so, it might be only in 1936 due to the fact that there was no formal adoption process until 1927.

Also, check the birth certificate for the address at which Nancy was born - often institutions such as mother/baby homes use street addresses. There may be surviving records.

Thanks for replies.  The adoption was in the UK, I have a copy of the Adoption Order, and had researched adoption law so agree formal adoption might be later than reality.   I have been to the address on the birth certificate for parents and for where birth occurred.   Electoral register does not show parents at the address they gave on the birth certificate.  The address of the birth was registered as a nursing home at the time.

Hi,
Has anyone got any information on Newspaper Editors especially for James John Oman? Might give a clue to his whereabouts.
