Hi Arranroots

My name is Ben Fleck and I recently visited the monument Thiepval in France and was amazed to see A.K Fleck printed on one of the colums as my last name is not very common.

could i possibly enquire what further information you have on this brave man.

Ben

Hi Ben

Thanks for your message! It is indeed an unusual name - I don't even know its origins.

Alec FLECK was my grandfather's cousin. He was born in Greenock (SDGW database) 21st August 1887, the son of William FLECK and his wife Margaret (maiden surname KELSO, a native of Arran). His father was a river pilot (GRO Scotland births Renfrew 564/03 0723).

I have further information on his service, gained mainly from the records others have posted above. His personal service record does not, it would seem, survive.

I wonder if you have a connection with his family?

Kind regards, Arranroots :)
