Air Raid Police WW2.

Hello all,i would dearly like to find some photo's of the branch where my grandad served as a Air Raid Policeman in WW2 he lived in Winson Green i am not sure which team or branch he worked in he was George E Chappell he was about 44 then,or does anyone know anything about this subject?regards tobyma123.

There was only one Police station & that was at the top of Winson Green Rd. on the Dudley Rd. next to Somerfield park so he was probably stationed there,I remember an air raid siren mounted on the roof.

Hello Jim,it is nice to talk to a fellow Brummie i grew up in that area so i know where you mean just another little gem grandad told me that they had a little dog in the station do not know who it belonged to but it travelled with the fire engine a Scottie i believe the things you remember from your childhood thanks so much for the info will follow it up other than that i wonder if Bham library has any photo's in their archives?regards tobyma123.

ARP stood for Air Raid Precautions, not Police.  Air Raid Wardens were a separate organisation from the police and mostly operated from temporary quarters.  If any records survive they are likely to be in your local authority's care.

My GGGrandma was Eliza Withers b.1807.St.Martin's.Her father was Joseph.

Hello Jim,the Withers in my family are Charles Howard Withers born in 1908 Aston bham married my grandmothers sister Violet Morgan in 1929 Bham North reg she was born in 1905 Bham i am not sure of his parents but you could look him up died about 1965 Bham sorry i have not more for you but Withers are my family by marriage regards tobyma123.
