George W Newbound & Emily E Moore
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 16:36 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot but I know from experience that someone may be able to help me. I have recently been given by my aunt a handmade box containing memento’s and 3 photographs, this belonged to my great grandmothers second husband George William Newbound so is no direct descendant. He was originally married to Emily Eliza Moore and she died in 1953 and there are a lot of bibles & books that have her name in and various doodles and are very interesting. As far as I know they had no children. I thought it would be nice to be able to give them to a direct family member. This is the info that I know.
George William Newbound (aka Jim)
Born 1885 in Southwark London to parents Charles Robert & Elizabeth Ann Newbound
Married Emily in 1919 Lymington, Hampshire
Died in 1966 Lymington Hampshire
Siblings were : Elizabeth P , Louisa Marie (twins) & Charles Robert

Emily Eliza Moore
Born 1886 in Milton, Hampshire to parents Fred & Augusta Moore
Married George in 1919 Lymington, Hampshire
Died in 1953 Lymington (New Forest) Hampshire
Siblings were : Fred, Thomas, Ada & Elsie (also twins)

This is something that I would dearly love to have myself from a direct descendant but unfortunately I have nothing vaguely like it so it would be good to go to a good home
I have posted on Hampshire & London boards but so far no luck so fingers crossed for nationwide as someone must be researching one of these two families
Regards
Steve

Hello
I have just seen your post about George William Newbound and, although I am probably too late, I am interested in the contents of the chest that you have.  George was my half first cousin once removed - we share the same grandfather, Charles Austin Newbound.  I am happy to provide any proof of the link that you might require.

Although I don't for one minute expect to be lucky enough to claim the chest, I wonder if you would be able to share the contents and any photos it may contain.

Many thanks
Elaine

Hi Elaine
Hooray !! someone who is a direct relative of George at last !!
You are the first and are most welcome to the 'ditty box' and its contents. I have had several replies but they have been about the box itself. It is apparently a ditty box derived from the word commodity and it was made by sailors in WW1, they didn't have lockers in those days to keep their private belongings in so they hand made these style of boxes. If you pvt msg me I will see how to get it to you
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve

Wow, that's amazing that you still have the box !!!

You will think I'm being totally thick now, but can't see how to send you a message.  I only joined this site yesterday so that I could check on the box, so still finding my way around.

My e-mail address is * so perhaps we work something out via that.

Many thanks
Elaine

Just found this site today and thought that Elaine (Cousins, seven generations removed!!!) might be able to lay claim to this chest. Would love to know if she did manage it. regards, Lesley

Sounds like a good outcome, very generous of you to give it up. I have been in touch with Elaine occasionally over the years but we have yet to meet up. will no doubt eventually get there..
