So there wasnt a John Nicholson/Ann Smith marriage after all - Ann Smith must have married another groom on the page!

      I was aware of that possibility in the first place but, because of Sarah on '51 C, I needed to see if John N. had married Ann Smith off the list.  Coulderton has now sorted that one for me.

I too am pleased it was sorted easily.

But someone could have spent a lot of time and effort trawling through parish records for Egremont and neighbouring parishes for something that turned out not to exist - that was my concern. 
That approach, to me, would be a last resort (yes, often reached in Family History!) not the first.

Anyway - I am pleased your query was solved and you can rule out that marriage as being relevant.

The JUN 1846 one is also wrong. I found that in Harrington register the other month: John Nicholson/Isabella Nicholson, May 28th.
