Hi, I'm not sure if there are any survivors of the Covid epidemic on this thread as no other posts have been added since 2017. I read your discussions with interest, as I am descended from Jacob Dalton 1810 and Rachel Willett 1814; the family ran the Locomotive, formerly the Black Horse, and were mentioned as witnesses in the prosecution of the Coggeshall gang, the blacksmith's forge occupied by Jacob being in the yard behind the public house at the time.
Since I have been able to test my DNA, I have matches to 2 direct descendants of Michael Dalton 1804 and one to a descendant of Rebecca Dalton 1797, as well as 5 to Jacob via Ancestry. So despite the absence of a baptism record for the younger 3 siblings, I am fairly sure the matches to the known children must count towards proof of parentage.
I'd be interested to hear from any other Coggeshall Daltons out there. My line left Coggeshall when Jacob 1837 went to live in Chelmsford, and although Jacob returned to run the Locomotive around 1892, by then his children were all across Essex, apart from one who headed to Ontario, and one who came back to Coggeshall, whose family I have not researched yet.
Many thanks.
