Hi,
Sorry, couldn't reply yesterday.

shellyesq

I saw those references and Sandra's link to the Irish Census 1911 lists William as a retired shop keeper so that may be the grocer.

Sandra

Thanks for that link - hadn't heard of it before.  I was going to check the Irish Census to see if they had returned to Ireland but you got there first.

Many thanks for those links.  I will order a copy of their marriage cert. and hope Hanora (Nora) is from my family.

Unfortunately, they don't appear to have any children so that's the end of the line there too.

Many thanks for all your help.

Hi MM,

Would be interesting to see if you could find more on the Hartigan clan, noticed a couple of Richard Hartigan's in Troy. New York born Ireland - makes you wonder if William had other siblings who immigrated.

Hi Sandra,

I hadn't thought of checking out William's siblings.

It would be surprising that Mrs. William Hartigan had Troy, New York inscribed on the headstone if she hadn't been living there for some time.  So that is a good a place to start as any.

Cheers,

Hi, MM,

If you're talking about Thomas Ryan, from Moaklin, Upperchurch, Tipperary, (b. 1850, d. 1905), that was my great-grandfather.

I'll take a look in my paperwork and see if I can find anything about Ellen Ryan.
