Old land ownership records
« on: Thursday 22 September 11 12:02 BST (UK) »
I have just been up in my loft to have a look at a bag of old documents we acquired about 20 years ago. They all seem to be old land registration documents, the oldest ones are from 1811 but are mainly from the 1870's to 1900. I am quite happy to have them sitting in the loft, but wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

Sell them on eBay. If they are handwritten all the better and if they have wax seals attached that adds to the value.

If any refer to any famous house or person that is another bonus.

Read eBay ephemera to get an idea of prices attainable. Better to put together as a lot those which relate to a particular area rather than trying to sell them singly.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

I will have a look at ebay, though they are such beautiful things it seems a shame to sell them. as you say, they have wax seals and stamps attached to some of them and are on parchment in lovely handwriting. I think they mostly relate to London, though I did see something in there to do with Sheerness and also Nottingham.

Or you could donate to a local family history society for that area!
