1980`s BMD Gov.site
« on: Friday 23 September 11 14:08 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

I am looking for 1980`s death and other info.

Some time ago I found a government site into which I entered name, date of death etc and the search gave me the info I needed to order birth, marriage and death certs etc.

Try as I might I cannot find it now, please help!

Many thanks

possibly the HSE (Health Service Executive) website ?

see : link

You can order certs from that website for events up to the present day, but there's no search facility. To order a death cert you need to know name, place of death (name of street, hospital, home or town) and a date of date. They do allow you to give an approximate date, but dont specify how wide a date range they can search.

Shane,

Thanks for your reply.
No, that was not it. The one I used had a search engine and I could search and get ref. nos so I could order certs from Gov site.

The site which gives you the reference details is FamilySearch BMD Index - but it only covers up to 1958

Hi again,

Yes I use that one, but I have used one from official Gov channels that held lots of archives including wills, probate etc.

My BMD is 1970`s on unfortunately!

Regards

The HSE is a Government Agency run by the Dept. of Health. Other than the GRO, or their local offices, I dont think anywhere else provides official certs directly.

Historic Wills and probates would be held by the National Archives.

just to double check - you've posted your query in Ireland Resources so I'm presuming you mean Irish Certs ?

Have you tried this site.

http://www.rootsireland.ie/

you can do free searches as long as you register first
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
