Hi Bob. I have Belfast Street Directories for 1852/1896/1900/1949/1962/1973 would you like me to send you all the names for Charters that lived in Belfast for this years also you could try the Ulster Covenant for 1912.

Just had a wee look at the Covenant David is there.

Hi Anthony, I have david Charters on the Covenant. I also have his WW1 service records which show that he was discharged after a couple of weeks because of bad eyes. I have trouble with his mum & dad but yes I would greatly appreciate your offer. Would you also be able to give me McGraths in Belgrave street for 1896 and Sloan for Malvern street in 1896.
Sarah charters was born in glenwood street in 1896.
Thanks

Hi Bob,
I came across thse details of a John Charters at the following URL: http://web.archive.org/web/20040206081211/http://www.glenravel.com/cliftonstreet.htm

LWL 78
John Charters
died August 13th 1874
aged 78 years

John Charters was born in Antrim in 1796.
Coming to Belfast he founded the Falls Flax Spinning Company which was a large mill which stood on the corner of the Falls Road and Conway Street. He settled in Ardmoulin House which was also on the Falls Road, and later in life he moved to 'Craigavad'. John Charters had close connections with the Belfast Charitable Society, and in 1868 he paid for the building of the 'Charters Wing' which still remains at the rear of the present Clifton House.

In 1867 an additional wing at the back of the poor-house was erected at a cost of œ2.500 which was paid by John Charters (a mill owner),and in 1873 two additions, at each side of the building, were erected by Edward Benn at a cost of œ2.850.
John Charters and Edward Benn also gave donations to the poor-house along with a large number of others, but donations were not enough to run the poor-house and the Society had to find other ways of raising money, and in 1795 a new idea for making money was presented to the committee.

Hope it's of some use.

Hi Otto, Many thanks for that. Sadly he is not my John Charters. HE was a retired soldier who was a hard drinker and was born in about 1853 died in 1927
Thanks anyway. I would have liked to tie the mill owner into my family

Hi Bob. They are hard to get and the older they are the more you pay for them from £50 to £200.

My maternal grandmother was a Charters.
Several Charters came to Australia.
John Charters 1796-1874 was the brother of my great great grandfather.
Glad to help if I can.
