Marriage Mystery of Simmons Williams
« on: Tuesday 27 September 11 04:58 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone!
For months now I have been trying to find a marriage record for 2 of my Ancestors, but have had absolutely no luck.
The Marriage was between Simmons Williams (b 1834, Liverpool) and Jessica Thompson (b.1838, Scotland)
There first child was born in 1871 (Liverpool), but I have had no luck at all finding a record, nor a Birth record for Jessica.
Can anyone help or offer other suggestions? I'm in Australia, so I can't visit record offices etc.
Thanks heaps!
Rebecca

Were they still alive in 1911? If so, you could possibly discover how long they had been married in the 1911 census.

FreeBMD has a Simmims Williams, together with a Janet Nanson Thompson in the Sep 1/4 1868, West Derby, 8b, 823. Not a definite match, but highly suggestive at least.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

If Jessica Thompson was born in Scotland have you tried the Scotland's people website for their marriage. Although pinefamily may have already nailed it with the marriage he's just found.

As the baby is only 2 days old on census day in 1871 it is likely that this is her birth.

March 1871

WILLIAMS  Jessie     in W. Derby  8b 409

I see that Jessie's 32 year old widowed brother Robert is with them too.

Pinefamily I do think you have cracked it  ;D

In 1891 the family are still in Liverpool and have a 16 year old son called George Nanson Williams, bit of a clue there to mum's ancestry perhaps.

Here's his birth....

Births Mar 1875

Williams  George Nanson    Liverpool  8b 47

Thanks Carol. I only wish some of my own brick walls would come tumbling down.

You have to love unusual christian names; it makes our task so much easier.  :)
