Borough Hospital Croydon Surrey
« on: Saturday 01 October 11 09:58 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if the Borough Hospital Croydon had a name in 1901 and where it was situated?
Also what type of "hospital" was it? I'm trying to get information to enable me to follow one of the Inmates, George Reid age 4.
Any help would be appreciated
Glengyle

You could try the Hospital Records Database http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/
There are five hospitals listed for Croydon

There were also two hospitals in the centre of the borough, in what is now known as West Croydon:
Queens Hospital  - the former workhouse
Croydon General Hospital - not the same as the current Croydon University Hospital (Mayday).

This is a useful site for tracing hospital records

Yes, I did look at the site and I believe you are correct. In the 1901 census it is referred to only as the Croydon Borough hospital. Young William had Diphtheria which I think is contagious.

Thanks also to Nell for taking the trouble to reply...........thanks.

At the end of the day I'm none the wiser because I've no other way of identifying him and, therefore, ruling him out.
Best regards
Glengyle
