Carlow Cathedral baptisms 1844 Margaret Reed
« on: Wednesday 05 October 11 07:13 BST (UK) »
Hello - does anyone have access to the Cathedral of the Assumption in Carlow records?  I've found an entry on FamilySearch's Pedigree Resource file for a Margaret Reed daughter of John Reed and Julia Hanlon born (or baptised?) 29 July 1844.  I wonder if anyone can confirm whether this does match the record and if there's any further information.  I think this family worked building the railways and moved around extensively - so far I've found sightings of them in Counties Monaghan, Louth, Armagh, Dublin and Kildare, but this possible Carlow sighting is the earliest one found yet.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Records for Carlow RC parish are available in the National Library on microfilm ref. : Pos. 4193. The baptism records for this parish go back to about 1774 and the marriages to 1769.

On the Irish Times website there is a reference to an LDS film for the parish : 0926119 item 1-2

An RC baptism from the 1840s would usually include date of baptism, child's name, full names of both parents, and the names of two sponsors/godparents. Sometimes the record would include a place of residence, but for people living in the town it may not.
