yeah - I was looking for them in Wrockwardine  ::)

Unless we have the parents' names we can't really go much further.

The link for the Wellington workhouse is

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/WellingtonSalop/

also suggests that Shropshire Archives have the records, which I said in my first post  ;D

sorry i should have included more info, I didn't know there would be so much response.
Bear with me i'm still newish to this.

So my great grandfather is William F Williams B1897 in Trench and died in Canada 1941 of TB.

His father is Thomas Williams (I don't know the wifes name) he was listed on William F's marriage cert (in Codford St. Peter). Thomas was listed as occupation Moulder and  dead by 1917.

We had heard that William was orphaned so this leads me to believe that those children i listed in the union workhouse could be him and his sibling( i don't if he had siblings for sure). Class: RG13; Piece: 2562; Folio: 130; Page: 6. Rows 18-21

So i think i have found william and siblings but now sure how to be confident. also don't know how to get the next step. I can't find a William F Williams with father of Thomas.

If the children in the workhouse are the people i'm looking for then i assume Thomas died in 1900 or 1901 based on the age of the youngest.

any help/advice of where to go from here would ge great

Hi

Woke up, not feeling well, so popped in!

Could this be the family in 1891, before the 4 youngest were born:

Trench Lane, Wrockwardine Woods, Trench
RG12/2133/91/29

Thomas Williams, 35, iron moulder's labourer, b. Shrewsbury
Jane A, wife, 33, b. -do-
Annie, 11, b. -do-
Sarah, 9, b. -do-
John, 6, b. Trench
Martha, 4. b. -do-

In 1881

21 School Lane, Shrewsbury
RG11/2651/57/23

Thomas Williams, 25, iron moulder
Jane, 23
Anna, 1
Richard Morris,  father in law, 70
All born Shrewsbury

There's this possible marriage for them but Jane would be quite young:

Sept q, 1875, Atcham, v. 6a p 1191
Thomas Williams and Jane Morris on the same page

Re the ref numbers for censuses ~

The RG refers to the census year - RG13 = 1901; RG12 = 1891; RG11 = 1881; and so on back to 1861 as RG09. The 1851 and 1841 were HO107

RG = Registrar General and HO refers to Home Office - the depts responsible.

The next number  is the Piece number, then the Folio number, then the Page. So, RG13/2562/130/6 translates as
RG13 = 1901; 2562 = Piece; 130 = folio; 6 = page

(1841 is slightly different)

Depending on which census index you are using, there is usually a series of boxes marked census reference number. Put the appropriate numbers in each of the specified boxes and th page should pop up.

Hope this helps.

Wondering about this for Jane in 1901:

Trench Lane, Wrockwardine Wood
RG13/2564/83/12

Jane Williams,married,  44, b. Shrewsbury
John, s, 16, ? Roller's Labourer in Forge, b. Wrockwardine Wood
Alfred, s, 2, b. -do-

My best call on Thomas for 1901 is this one, which might explain the break up of the family, but do note that it's only a poss:

H,M Prison, Shrewsbury
RG13/2536/106/22

Thos Williams, inmate, married, 44, labourer, b. Shrewsbury

It's the only match that's coming up at the moment.  I'll see if I can find refs to him in the crime data and/or newspapers later today.
