Hi Gnu,
Birth and marriage details are all correct. I haven't sent for my grandmas death certificate as I got to see the burial records from the originals in "The lighting Office" in Thurso an Eileen Hendrie who was the burial records officer.
My Grandfather was assistant inspector of the poor and his father was a registrar and Inspector of the poor.
I do appreciate all your efforts.
Gordon

Just  doubled checked the death record again after Malky gave slightly diff info ~  (I see that he's drastically changed his posting now - Norty  ::)  )

Added what he originally said:

Quote
An Andrew Dodds married a "C" (no full forename) Robertson 1910, in Perth.
Crichton Dodds aged 98 died 1970 in Thurso, so it is suspected that the "C" = Crichton.

To put the record straight:

1970 Thurso,   Helen Crichton Dodds, Other Names - Robertson. Age 88

Gordon - Does the Burial record say that Andrew was deceased - or anything else. Otherwise, I think it would be worth getting her death record. It might give some info that you don't have.

"We're looking for Andrew Dodds after 1915, Gordon knows about his grandmother so  I'm not sure what you are trying to say  ??? ::)"

Read the full post. I sent it out by mistake without all of the information written down so had to take it back and modify it.
I did read the original post, but there are a few queries being thrown up in the ongoing search. I tend to check all information, not list it to one aspect.

Regards

Malky

Hi Gnu,
Yes I see what you mean about the death certificate but wouldn't it just say married to Andrew deceased?
Malky was correct about the "Crichton" my grandmother took her mothers maiden name to become Helen Crichton Robertson then Dodds.
Both the 1901 and 1911 census stated Andrew R Dodds
Thanks again
Gordon

Malky hadn't given full info when he first posted - as he said he's had to modify it- so the original posting was misleading.

Death certs sometimes have more info than  just the name, occ and 'widow of'. I'd buy it or try to get to Edinburgh/Glasgow/Aberdeen to check it out,   if it were my ancestors. I'd also check the marriage certs of your Aunty. A search at Edinburgh might also turn up a possible will.

You don't say if a visit to one of the centres would be easy for you.

All you have at the moment is that he was alive (or not stated as deceased in 1938) from your parents' marriage cert but nothing else.

Hi Gnu,

Yes I will send for the certificate, unfortunately I live in Cornwall, 27 miles from Lands End :(
I have been touring Scotland for the last 3 years (only 6 weeks at a time) and managed to get to Penicuik, Muir of Ord and Thurso this year. but unfortunately I only started tracing my family tree before this years trip.
regards
Gordon

Just checked for divorces on the NAS site but nothing showing for them  :-\

Post 1901 wills:

Quote
How to find testaments from 1902
From 1902, to search for the will and/or inventory of someone who died in Scotland or someone with Scottish connections who died outwith Scotland, you need to know:

    the person's name,
    where they lived, and
    when they died.

There is an annual index of testaments, the Calendar of Confirmations. From 1901 to 1959 it takes the form of printed or typed volumes and from 1960 it is in the form of microfiche cards. The Calendar covers all of Scotland and gives details of the deceased, their place and date of death, and details of when and where their testament is recorded. The index is available in the Historical Search Room and the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, holds copies up to 1936. From 1985-1996 there is a computer index available in the NAS search rooms.
