As far as I know, Catholic records remain with the churches.  I have Catholic ancestors and have been advised to contact the churches involved, enclosing a donation for help with research.

From Long Melford the original local Catholic Church was Coldham Cottage at Lawshall - and yes, people used to walk there from Sudbury for mass on Sundays.

Later the Catholic church of our Lady and St John opened in Sudbury in 1893.

There may be other Rootschatters who are able to help.  If not, send a message to Simon via his Suffolk Churches website, he is a Catholic and willno doubt be able to help further.

Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Hi somtree,

Can confirm there are some Long Melford non-conformist records on micro film at Bury St. Edmunds. Have used them myself for a 1780 baptism. Not sure of all the years covered on the film though.

I had to ask if they had it, as it did not appear on the indexes there.
