DISLEY family of CORRIS/ABERLLYFENI/MACHYNLLETH
« on: Saturday 07 May 05 12:19 BST (UK) »
JOHN DISLEY (b. 1845) originally came from Berriew, Montgomeryshire, but by 1871 was working as a railway warehouseman in Machynlleth and by 1881 was Clerk to the Aberllyfeni Slate Quarry at Corris.  His wife was SUSANNA JONES (of Wentnor, Shropshire), whom he married in Machynlleth in 1868, and their children were Mary Cecilia (1871-89), Herbert Henry (1872-1954), Sarah 'Annie' (1876), who married Evan Jones in 1896, William Edward (1877-1905), who married an Anne Jane, and Martha Jane Disley (1879).  Both of the sons worked in the slate industry, as did Herbert Henry's son Herbert Harold Disley (1900-1972), who had to leave Corris with his family when the slate industry collapsed in the 1930s.  Does this tie in with any one else's research?

Have you seen this website?

http://www.sporting-heroes.net/athletics-heroes/printableversion.asp?HeroID=2444

It has a photograph of John Disley, born in Corris, competing in the 1952 Olympics.

Hello!
My name is Thomas Atkinson, son of Robert Ellis Atkinson (second cousin to John Disley).
It seems we are distantly related.
We're meeting John in Cambridge on Thursday.

Hello!  Very good to hear from you.  My father and I are much looking forward to meeting you and the rest of your family tomorrow.  I very much enjoyed meeting your grandmother some months ago.  She was my grandparents' bridesmaid and can remember pushing my father around in a pram!  See you tomorrow.  Best wishes, Emma (Disley)
