Hi again ,
I've been trying to add the photos I took of the pieces on the application form but the file is too big . I will try to work on making a smaller file.
So do you think that John Nolan 26256 sounds more like my John Nolan.?

based on what we have so far, he's my best guess at the moment.

The Silver War Badge list at the National Archives in Kew might give a little more information. Unfortunately, they are not online. You would need to visit or get a researcher to look them up (or possibly a volunteer via the Great War Forum - it would be worthwhile posting a message there anyway)

If anyone in the family has his medals they would confirm number and regiment.

I would have expected to see some sort of pension record for him online but so far, nothing that matches.

Thank you very much for all your help.
Unfortunately nobody in the family knows anything about my Gr Uncle , the only person who would have had all the answers to quite a lot of info was my mother and unfortuantely she is no longer with us. I only found him by chance on Guinness's site because I was looking for his father who my mother had told me years ago that her grandfather had worked there. I found my grandfather's file and it gave the correct date of birth for his son John Nolan . Going on the idea that jobs were often given preference to those who had family members who already worked for Guinness'  I checked him out and I was lucky to find him. Guinness's achives was a great help to me and sent me out both their files.

Thank you again.

I'm guessing that when he enlisted he went to the 10th RDF as they were in the process of being established in 1915/16.

Possibly transferred to the 1st RDF around the time the 10th was disbanded in early 1918. The Long Trail suggests that men from the 10th went to the 19th Entrenching Battalion and that subsequently some went back to the 16th (Irish) Division, the 1st RDF being a unit in that division.

http://www.1914-1918.net/entrenching.html

March/April 1918 was not a good time to be in the 1st or 2nd RDF (19th Entrenching Battn was too far away during this period)

http://www.dublin-fusiliers.com/battaliions/1-batt/campaigns/1918-kaisers.html

Pure speculation but at the time of his discharge in June 1918, the 10th RDF had ceased to exist.
