1901 Census,
27 St Georges St,
St Matthew, Suffolk
RG13/1733/37/1
Matilda PITT, 50, Head, Widow, No Occp, On Own Account
Harry, 2,Son, S, Railway Carter
Alfred, 21, Son, S, Groom
Beatrice, 18, Daug, S, Housework at Home
Ida, 14, Daug
Violet, 14, Daug
All born Ipswich, Suffolk
+
Nellie DREW, 6, Grand/Daug, Scholar, born India
Frederick Drew, 4, Grandson, born India

Following back Matilda she is Married to George Pitt/s and they have a Daug AMELIA E born c 1869, Ipswich. Matilda is nee SMYTH as her Mother Matilda Smyth is with them in 1881.

Now as too the 2 Grandchildren in 1901 Nellie seems to have been Christened Ellen Louis Drew in Bengal to a EDWARD/MILLICENT.
So could have he remarried and then died ??.

Lots more investigation needed but have posted all of this in case it adds up later!

I see yo are online Alan, but I am going out for a while but will still be signed in to Rootschat. So if I dont answer please dont be offended!

Hi Trish,
What do I say. You have almost got their whole history here.
I'm just trying to take it all in.

I think that Amelia must have died for Edward to have married agin as you say to die soon after.
I looked but could'nt find a death for her but now possibly it was in India.

What were you looking at to find where Victoria was in 1911 - was it the census?

A big thank you for your help. Perhaps there's more!!

Maybe you could ask for a Look-Up on the Suffolk Board for the 1890 Marriage of Edward Drew and Amelia Pitt.

Trish :)

Hi Louisa Maud,

Very grateful for your help.

Now to try for a 1891 census lookup for Edward Drew & Amelia assuming they
are still in England and not already in India.

Evenin' all,

Not sure if this is related, but I own a mill in Sweffling, nr. Saxmundham, Suffolk.  After the mill ceased and the buck was pulled down, the round-house was given to Matilda Smith (house-keeper of the miller's house), she was married to a Lapsey Smith.  And they lived in the round-house with their 8 children.  When she died her relatives in Sweffling sold the mill to my parents via open auction.

If anyone is interested I have some photos of Matlida & Lapsey that I can forward.

Cheers,
Windy Miller
