Sampson Crackle of Belton - Completed, many thanks!
« on: Friday 14 October 11 21:44 BST (UK) »
Has anyone out there heard of Sampson Crackle please?! He was born in Belton around 1771 and died about 1846. He's the furthest I've got back to in my family tree and that's where I'm stuck! I'd love to be able to find the names of his parents. The surname is sometimes Crackel and later changes to Crackles. (Yes I learned to fight going through school with that surname!!)  ;D

Did you find Sampson on 1841 census?

Hi Meezer :)

I guess your "about 1771" is based on age 70 in 1841 census - this would actually cover 1766-1771 as ages ought to have been rounded down.

This is the closest to that in the IGI http://tinyurl.com/5r8al4c

Are these names reflected in Sam's children?

Perhaps they were the John CRACKLE and Mary WOOLAS who married 1763 Messingham.

See here (left middle) http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=778620&iid=371551

Your man's marriage is here (top left) http://www.lincstothepast.com/Marriages/521745.record?ImageId=47244&pt=T
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Flippin' heck you lot are good!

Geoff, I think you've got his parents thank you! Yes, I've got him as aged 70 on the 1841 census and the ages are notorious on there aren't they? So that christening date of 1765 would fit in nicely.(He does have a son and daughter that he names John and Mary so that could be after his parents) I know that he married twice, first to Mary Smith in 1788 and then to Elizabeth Hardy in 1810. (It gets hard to keep on track as he has a son with Mary who they also name Sampson - he marries Ann Ramery in 1790.) I'm descended from his second marriage to Elizabeth.

Isobel that's an interesting one thank you, I wonder if he's another in the line (oh blimey I don't know if I could cope with keeping track of 3 of them called Sampson!)

I'm gobsmacked at the speed of your responses and delighted thank you!
