Residence at time of marriage was Whissendine Rutland.  Albert was in labourer in Rutland.

Readydale, yes have seen oakham Edith, but cant find any further details.  It is a strong possibility that she has changed her name.

I'm mystified as to why you keep insisting that Matilda was born in 1892, when her marriage certificate says she was 22 years old in 1916 ?   1916 - 22 = 1894 ?

Also, have you identified who Joseph Bailey was (the witness on her marriage certificate) ?

Hi Nick,
The marriage cert does show edith as 22 years, it could be wrong i agree but give or take a couple of years still does not show any difference in birth mystery.  I have searched both marriage witnesses without luck.  C E Goakes i found by chance in 1911 cencus, living in oakham Rutland on melton Road.  Can find nothing further about him.   Edith was married in oakham Register office.

The family of George and Eliza Bailey who are in Gawthorpe in 1901 show up in Melton Mowbray district in 1911 (using information from the free search).  The two children born after the marriage, Joseph and Maurice (Morris in 1901) are still with them.
George and Eliza's ages - 48 and 45 respectively - are consistent with birth years of 1862 and 1865.

There are no deaths in Melton Mowbray district of a likely George and Eliza Bailey.

However, the death of a  George W B Bailey aged 69 was registered in Oakham district in 1931 (so birth year c1862).  The death of Eliza Bailey aged 64 was registered in Oakham district in 1929 (so birth year c1865).

Going back to 1901, the child named Peter Bailey, aged 10 and born in Melton Mowbray does not have a corresponding entry in the birth index. There is however a Peter Greasley birth registered in Melton Mowbray in September quarter of 1890.
