Hi,
I've been interested in family history for quite some time and recently my Grandmother gave me a copy of the family tree from her paternal side of the family.
It manages to wind its way back to around the 1550's with Nicholas Dente (the earliest entrant of who I'm descended) dieing on the 17th 9th 1558.
In the margin's and on the back of the tree are a couple of numbed notes/annotations picking out people of interest - it is with these I was hoping someone might be able to help me.
'Mr Nicholas Dent/Dente of Howgill Castle, Baptised 6/1/1963 - Died - 11.4.1696 - wife Mrs Mary, Died - 6.3.1727/8'
Mr Nicholas Dent ESQ, Baptised 12.12.1760 - Died 14.4.1805, Moved to Appleby, - Captain of the County Millitia (Appleby loyal volunteers) - latter Major in the French Wars - Died in fall from horse, - Wife Maria Potts, Died 15.12.1806'
I have googled and googled and googled every possible combination of names dates, residences, ect and come up with scant information other than that which I already have.
I would be particularly interested to know if there was a link between my line of the Dent/Dente familyand the Dent's of Flass - and also - if there was a link to the Crackenthorpe family of Howgill Castle.
I would greatly appreciate any information at all and would be more than pleased to provide a copy of the family tree in my possession to anyone of who thinks it would be of use to them and there research.
Regards
