Did Edith M Snook OR Guthro sail to Canada in 1914?
« on: Sunday 16 October 11 09:55 BST (UK) »
Edith M SNOOK was a British Subject; born in Togal Portugal and in 1913 was living in Frimley Surrey.

I have been told that she sailed to Canada in 1914.

She married Bill GUTHRO at this time as well; in Canada?
They had two children Joe GUTHRO born 1916 and Bernice GUTHRO born 1919.

Sorry that I do not have any more to help in the search.

Can anyone help me to confirm or decline this information?

There is a Canadian passenger list for a Edith Snook in 1914 but born 1855 so not yours.
Another entry for Edith Snook (no age given) 25 th June 1913 - London to Quebec on the Corinthian but apart from single, domestic, tourist, going to Victoria. BC - no other details

Not sure this will help but - There is a border crossing for a Joseph Guthro - Canada to the USA 4th November 1938. Pleasure trip for 1 day.
Joseph was born in 1916 Claire. Ottawa.  Father's name was John.  ??? Sorry your's was Bill.

There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further so this may hinder your progress.   Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.

Edith SNOOK was born 1881 in Togal Portugal and was back in England before 1891. Her father Charles Snook was living in Egham with family.

Edith had resigned her post as Head Teacher at Frimley Council Infants School Frimley Surrey. The Resignation was accepted to take effect on 6th June 1913.

That would make Sandra´s sailing 25 June 1913 a possible date.

Thank you also for the links.

There is a death for a George Tresidder who died 28 Feb 1965 in Vancouver, BC who was married to Edith May Snook. Here's a link to the transcription at the LDS site:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/MN5C-KPB/p1

I found the outgoing UK passenger list for the voyage of the Corinthian which Sandra referenced and it indicates Miss E. Snook was 26 at the time which would be a birth year of about 1887.

The date of birth for Edith is approximate as we cannot get an exact birth in the 1870´s as the registration of births in other countries was not made compulsory until much later.

Are there birth dates for Joe Guthro born 1916 and  Bernice Guthro born 1919?

That would help in making the search more accurate. :)
