Date please
« on: Sunday 16 October 11 18:31 BST (UK) »
This is a strange one, out of an album that has been used more as a scrap book.  Many years ago my parents identified many photos, including this one, and I have, in quite a young hand, written in the names.  "Lilly Shepherdson, Maggie, Mary and John".  I have Shepherdsons, East Yorkshire, in my tree, but cannot find these people - a date would help of course.

Sorry there is no back, I am assuming it is a postcard, it is that sort of size and thickness.

It could be just before or just after WW1,my guess is just after as the Art Deco chair wasn't seen prior to WW1.

Jim
Thanks that is good - I have now found the births of 3 children with the correct names, born 1914,1916 and 1920 - all with mother named Denison.  Unfortunately I cannot find a suitable marriage - so still do not know who the father is - unless it is one I had down as a Bachelor.

Might now need to try East Yorkshire!

Many thanks for your help.

The older ladie's brooch is just like your avatar, the Yorkshire Rose,
I thought it may be regimental badge made into a brooch but all the Yorkshire Regiments have something else with the Rose.

She must be a Yorkshire Rose as well!
I now know who these people were - the family of a man who I thought was a bachelor - but only becauseI hadn't found a family for him.  How useful to have an album of photos, however tatty!
Thanks for your interest.

James

You set me thinking - I have seen it somewhere before, and now I have found it.  Cannot be sure it is the same brooch/pendant, but it is possible.

I would be interested if it could be identified, there is something more than 'just the rose'

How lovely Kath...I wonder if the three rings represent the three Ridings of Yorkshire.

Carol, I wondered that too.  It is silver and I am madly surfing to try and identify the marks.  It could be masonic, although I have no knowledge of any masons, but then this lady is (assuming she is the mother's mother - looks like it) 'married into the family' as it were.

If it was Masonic Kath it would have a square and Compass....I've goggled Images for Yorkshire Rose pendant...but...there's nothing with the centre piece like yours  ::)
