... elizabeth m kilroy born 1855 in county Meath and in 1901 was a farmer (not sure of this she was a widow so maybe she was a farmers wife?). ...

The census lists marital status so it should be easy enough to check if she was single, married, widowed or divorced.

sorry what i meant was i wasnt sure of her being a farmer as she WAS a widow so maybe her occupation was a farmers widowed wife, rahter than farmer. im not sure of the history here, did woman work the land if there was no husband to do it?

it's possible - after one of my grgrt-grandfathers died, his widow is listed as Farmer on several records after that. Another gtgt-grandmother in Co. Wicklow ran the farm and a shop, whilst her husband ran a business in the town.

here are a few Kilroy BMD records in the Oldcastle registration district which covers the townland of Derrysheridan - including a possible match for the death of Elizabeth's husband : Kilroy Oldcastle BMDs 1894-1901

Have you already got Ethel's birth cert? If so, does it have the father's name and occupation and mother's maiden name?  If you don't have here are the details you need to send to the GRO in Roscommon

Here we go, it's all here. Start with James Watkin Kilroy, Ethel's Dad with 2nd wife Elizabeth Armstrong, and read on from there.

No problem. You're right of course, there's no guarantee that everything there is right, though they are good at listing sources of the details.
